CHEF JOÃO MACEDO
FROM MASTERCHEF
FOR THE WORLD

Chef João Macedo, a specialist in world food with a background in hotel management, has fulfilled his dream of opening his own restaurant in his hometown of Seixal. With Cape Verdean influences from his father’s side of the family, he has brought a rich diversity of colors and flavors to his culinary creations.
From his first steps in the kitchen, hand in hand with his mother, João cultivated a great love for cooking, dedicating himself with commitment and passion. In addition to his training, he has accumulated experience as a head waiter in hotels, restaurant manager and participant in food truck events. His expertise and knowledge has also led him to offer consulting services to restaurants.
In 2015 his participation in MASTERCHEF PORTUGAL gave him national recognition and finally, in December 2016, João saw his dream come true with the opening of Mundet Factory, a restaurant and bar that became a reference in national gastronomy, placing Seixal in the spotlight on the country's culinary scene.

THE WORLD IN SEIXAL

L. MUNDET & SONS
Quinta dos Franceses, in the county of Seixal, was the chosen location for the renowned L. Mundet & Sons factory. Founded in 1905, it quickly became the largest cork exporter in the world, employing over 2,500 people, mainly women. In the 1930s, in addition to creating canteens for workers, the factory also served "poor people's soup" to the most needy people in Seixal. The factory was considered extremely advanced for its time; even today, many of the inventions related to the world of cork were created here at Mundet.
